Sending From a Diffirent e-mail address....

I have outlook 2003 connected to a exchange server 2003.

I would like to type in the from field [email protected] and send as that
address. However this is not allowed, I receive the following error

"You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this
object. See the folder contact or your system administratior."

Is this possible?

It is if you are granted the correct rights by the Exchange administrator.
Have you followed the directions of the message and contacted your support
staff to see 1) if they will grant the necessary rights and/or 2) does this
go against any corporate policies around acceptable use of the e-mail
system.

This is a test bed system which i use at home to try things out, I just need
to know how to do it for one of my customers.

Assuming [email protected] is another Exchange mailbox, then you would open
Active Directory Users and Computers (use the one that installs with
Exchange System Manager), bring up the properties on the user object, go to
the Exchange Advanced tab, Mailbox rights, grant the secondary user read
and full mailbox rights.

Tried it, same error, unless I did something wrong.....

Is there no other way, do I really have to have antother user?

a right change might take up to 2 hours to take effect.

what do you mean user another user? do you mean you just want to relay thru
you exchange server? (e.g. lets say the exchange domain is
myspecialplace.com and you want to send mail as [email protected]. which
case no, you could always setup a POP/IMAP/SMTP account and authenticate to
the SMTP server of Exchange and be whoever you want.)

Ah. You didn't say that this is another SMTP address defined in your mailbox
properties.
Short answer: cannot be done natively - you can send only as your
default/reply address set on the server. And you can't change it in the
client.
Longer answer: might see www.ivasoft.biz for ChooseFrom.

This Add-in for Outlook is a small utility which automates certain routine
tasks if you're working with a Exchange Server and have set up public eMail
accounts for individual departments, branches or tasks of your organization.

Apart from your personal email address/mailbox you may have access to one or
more shared mailboxes or public folders, e.g. for your department or for
special tasks like support enquiries. If you want to send an email as coming
from a shared mailbox or public folder, you have to manually add the "From"
field via the View menu and enter the respective sender address there.
Otherwise the mail would be sent with your personal email address and any
replies would end up in your personal mailbox (and you would have to move
same to the shared mailbox for other users to be able to view it). This is
where the tool steps in: It will automatically determine the correct sender
address to use based on the mailbox or public folder the user is currently
located in within Outlook. Additionally, it offers the option to move or
copy the sent message to the relevant account's Sent Items folder (or the
originating Public Folder itself).
