Setting same work for similar tasks on different projects

I have several tasks that are similar among different projects. If I refine
the work hours for a task on one project, I have to do the same for the other
projects. Depending on the task, I either do a search for those tasks or sort
and group the tasks and then paste the info across those same tasks. Is there
a different, more automatic way to do this? For example, is there a way I can
set a generic tasks with specific defaults and if I change it in one row,
it'll automatically change on all the other rows where I've used that task?
Basically, I want it to work similar to how the resources work relative to
the Gantt chart -- if you change the specific resource information, like the
resource name, the gantt chart info will automatically be updates.

There isn't that ability for Tasks, but you could write VBA code to do it
for you. You would need to define a process first, then automate it.
