Several Outlook 2007 questions

G'day all - changing work circumstances have me using Outlook for email for
the first time. I"ve used it for my diary and contacts for yearas to symc
with my PDA.)

So I've got three main questions regarding it.

Is there any way to lock emails so they can't be deleted? (I've done this
since I started using email decades ago, it seems, so I can't believe that
Outlook can't do it.)

Threading - I tried to group by 'conversation' and then 'received' but it's
a horrible solution, frankly. Surely this can be done? It's BASIC email stuff.

Alerts - can they only be triggered by the inbox? (I mean the nice alpha
transparency ones, not the "here I am in the middle of your screen, you must
click on me to get me to go away" ones.)

TIA, much appreciated.

Lock them from yourself? Or from whom? Just don't delete them, that
would be the same result...

What kind of threading would you like? Can you describe it?

Yes, they only work for the inbox.

Yes, if you're perfect. However, I'm not. It's also a way of immediately
seeing the importance of messages. I can't believe Outlook doesn't do it.

Just the bog-standard email threading that pretty much every email client
ever invented uses, like so:

First message
- second message
- third message
- fourth message

and so on.
Yes, they only work for the inbox.

Bummer.

Thanks.

Outlook has flags and color categories to categorize emails according to
importance, relevant area, needed response, etc.

When you go into Customizing the View, set the following:
Group By: "Automatically group according to arrangement".
Sort by: Conversation (ascending) and then Conversation Index
(ascending)

I think this will do it.

Sure, but that doesn't protect the message. Incredibly frustrating when
you've come from an excellent email client.

Thanks - I had something similar, but not quite as good as that, but it's
still a horrible hack compared to proper threading, which is not exactly a
new idea for email.

I love the server-based email solution, but Outlook is driving me a bit crazy.

Thanks for your help.
