Start date same as predecessor's Finish date

I'm using Project 2003. Why in some of my schedules does Start equal the
Finish of the predecessor task? Does this have something to do with the work
contour (about which Help is useless)?

It may. The start date of a successor task could have the same data as
the finish of the predecessor task if the predecessor task finishes
prior to the end of a workday. You might want to go to
Tools/Options/View tab and set the date format to include the time.
