Task Name Disappearing

J

JPD

I save versions almost daily as I make changes / updates to a
schedule. I noticed today that a bunch of my task names have
disappeared for completed task. I'm not sure how this happened ...
looking back at my past versions the file size halved about two days
ago and thats when the task names disappeared. Any ideas why this has
happened?

I can't think of anything major I have done that may have caused
this. My only changes have been updates to durations, relationships,
and actual dates.

Thanks,
J

Hi J,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

It sounds like corruption. You could try the suggestions in FAQ Item: 43.
Handling project file corruption and/or bloat.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address:http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Hi,

Is the filter applied "All Task"?
It sounds as if the filter is set to "Incomplete Tasks"
HTH

The filter is set to all task. The task line still exist with a
"checkmark" in the indicator column and the dates still show
correctlly. Just the task name is blank .....

Hello JPD,

What release of Project and what service pack are you using? I saw this
happen on a client site where they were not using SP - 2 and Project
2003. If you are using Project 2003 and do not have the latest service
pack, try installing that SP. I would also continue to run daily
backups as well as check for corruption as Mike suggests.

Also, is it possible that the task names are being replaced by a space
character? Inadvertently hitting the space bar in the Task Name field
will replace the name with a space and it will appear blank or empty. (I
only throw that out as a comment keeping my own typing challenges in
mind.)

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
