Task Numbers are out of sequence

I have received a very large project schedule from a subcontractor to import.
A number of task line item numbers are out of order (in other words Line Item
1661 follows Line Item 2671). Is there a way to sort these?

Jan,

Actually this did not do what I was trying to accomplish after all. It did
reorder the tasks by their ID number but what I guess I wanted to do was,
becasue the tasks themselves are already in the proper order, was to reassign
new task ID #s based on the order that tasks are presently in.

Is this even possible?

Hi Scrufnut,

You will have to resort them in the original order, but in the Sort dialog,
select to permanently renumber the tasks.

When I sort my list & ask to renumber the sequence, it does. But when I save
the file and re-open it, the sequence is messed up again. How do I save the
sequence when I sort? This has only been happening since we started using MSP
2007

it is a shame, what worked well in older versions does not work well in the
"latest & greatest" version. Makes me feel I spent $600.00 for nothing when I
had a version that was working better than your newest one. I understand that
I must sort from time to time, but not everytime I open a file or go away.
This needs to be corrected. When I print my schedule & distribute it, it does
not match what I am using for updates. Taking me too long to do simple job.
Shame, because I was trying to get others to buy into my using MSP.

Hi Mike, Jan, and Firewalker,

In quick testing it appears as though SP-2 may have fixed the
non-permanence of the "permanently renumber." Try installing SP-2.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hello Jan,

Yes, the permanence of "Permanently renumber tasks" in Project 2007
Pro with SP-2 is now, well, permanent. Even through closing and
reopening.
