Hello Anton,
First of all, you have to specify the Status date : Project / Project
Information...

Then go to Tools / Options / Calculation
Check the following options which will do what you want :
- Move end of completed parts after status date back to Status date
- AND move start of remainning...
- Move start of remaining parts before Status date
- AND move end of completed parts....

Then enter your tracking data !

Hope this help,

Hello,
If I have an activity that is performing behind schedule (actual 20% against
plan 60%) and I do the update I'll get a new completion date which is later
than the original completion date. I now know that the project is so many
days behind schedule. OK so far....but if the performance is ahead of
schedule (actual 80% against plan 60%) and I do the update , I dont get a
new completion date. I expected that now I'm performing better than planned
I'd be completing earlier. Why doesnt it work that way.....and how could I
determine the new completion date ( which should be earlier that the
original completion date)
I hope I have made myself clear...:)....any ideas....
Thanks

Hello Dave,
Yes, as usual you set the constraint type as As Soon As Possible.
Ms Project will schedule these tasks by their Actual Start.

Hello Anton,

If the remaining is shorter than scheduled, you have to use the
Tools/ Tracking / Update tasks where you set the actual duration and correct
the remainning duration.
This manipulation can be combined with the previous calculation options.

Hello Gérard,
That somehow managed to show what I need. Now I dont need to use the
"tools/tracking /update...." thing. Is that OK?...
The only problem is that the actual start dates have changed. What I was
expecting is that if I was ahead the duration will automatically get
shorter....I dont suppose thats the way MS Project works.
Thanks...it sure helped.
