transfer "WORD" Document to "PUBLISHER" to print as booklet

have done a 17 page document in "WORD" now would like to be able to print it
in booklet form with pages & index, etc.

You don't say which version of Publisher you are using. But if you are
running Publisher 2002/2003, you can go to File > Import Word Document.
There will be some formatting loss however, which you will need to clean up.
You could also use copy/paste with any version of Publisher.
