Trusted Network Location - macro security error

In Word 2007, we need to set up a trusted location on our network for
workgroup templates. We have set the workgroup template file location so we
see the templates when selecting Office button | New. We have added that
network location as a Trusted Location in the Trust Center (being sure to
check the allow locations on my network checkbox). When selecting the
template from Office button | New, however, we still get the Macros have been
disabled message. These templates are saved as .dotm as they have VBA macros.
Is there some other setting we are missing?
Thanks for any help.

I am having the same problem. I have added the network folder, enabled
sub-folders, to the trusted locations but still it won't trust the macros in
templates in those folders without a prompt. BTW the folders I added are
already the network folders for group templates but they are still not
trusted. I note that the path for the new file created from the template is
for temporary files. Must that also be added? Not very safe, I think.

We actually found the following hotfix posting on Microsoft support
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/936520/en-us

It addresses this exact problem but there are no live downloads on this
page. There is a statement "To resolve this problem immediately, contact
Microsoft Customer Support Services to obtain the hotfix"

We found a website that had the live link from Microsoft, downloaded the
hotfix, and the trusted network locations WORK without security messages! I
don't have the website, but, it sounds like you can contact Microsoft for the
hotfix. And maybe it's a good idea to contact Microsoft -- are they keeping a
count of how many calls they get on this problem?

Yes, Support Services tracks hotfixes. Partly it's so they know how many
people are affected enough to go to considerable trouble to fix the problem.
(Yes, we've told them countless times that the language in the KnowledgeBase
articles isn't clear enough.)

But mostly it's because the hotfix patches haven't been through the full
suite of tests against various combinations of hardware and software, and
all the permutations of Office versions and languages. If the hotfix causes
a problem of its own, or fails to fix the problem in your case, they want to
know about it. By going around them and getting a "bootleg" of the hotfix,
you possibly put yourself at risk.

thanks for posting that information. I will work with our team to obtain the
hotfix from Microsoft directly. The download was from a formerly working
version of the page, but perhaps they have updated the hotfix.

Thanks again for the information.
