#value! when cell is blank

Hi,

Cell A1 contains the number 5
Cell A2 contains ""
Cell A3 contains =A1+A2

A3 returns #VALUE!

How can I make it return 5?

Thanks

One way:

A3: =IF(COUNT(A1:A2)=2,A1+A2,"")

another:

A3: =SUM(A1:A2)

since SUM ignores text.

Thank you guys for your responses, but there is a problem.

Cell A1 contains the number 5
Cell A2 contains =""
Cell A3 contains =SUM(A1,-A2)

A3 still returns #VALUE!

I think its because you can't have a negative zero

Hi,

=N(A1)+N(A2)

or

=SUM(A1)+SUM(A2)
