viewing old - very old - images still from outlook

when i open an email which contains image attachments, double-click on
the attachment, it opens in "windows picture and fax viewer", then, if
i hit the 'next' button at the bottom, i begin scrolling through a
random collection of previously viewed images that were also initially
viewed in this manner. some are MONTHS old, long ago deleted from my
machine, but are still appearing in this weird way. i've searched high
and low on the machine to find a folder holding this cache of old
images, but to no avail so far. even seaching C:\ and all subfolders
for the image that pops up doesn't find it. any ideas???

Take a look in C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp
It might be there. The Local Settings folder is hidden, so you might
actually not get to it without knowing it exists (when you have an
explorer Folder open, click Tools, Folder options, view, and switch
hidden files and folders to "show hidden files and folders")

aha! thanks Diane, that does the trick. though the only way to find that
was to do the start:run:%temp% trick, the same file i found via that way
NEVER came up in any regular search of windows. wacky.
thanks!

the temp internet folder has special properties so the folders in it remain
hidden even with search hidden files and folders enabled.

Not really wacky. Windows Explorer is designed to not show you the contents
of Temporary Internet Files unless you use the Start>Run method.

if these images were originally from a camera then the camera program will
have it's own folder under a generic name like Image0001.jpg. If you open
the picture in the fax viewer that you want to find, right clikc on it and go
to properties. it ill show you the file path that it is located at.
Remember you have some hidden system files such as the local folder. It is
always hidden by default. You will not be able to find it no matter what you
do in Windows explorer. if you hvave problems finding it you can so a search
for".jpg" or ".gif" or ".Tif" These are the most common file types that
cameras make. Again it will probably be a different and more generic camera
assigned name. I could get into a lot more of why, but I won't bore you.
