Visio 2003 Organization Chart (2002 Format Not Working)

I have been deligently working on an organization chart (many hours),
also adding synchronized pages, etc. with Visio 2003 Professional.

Here's my problem. I would like to share the file with Visio 2002
users--so they too could update the organizational chart. However after
I save the 2003 version as a 2002 Visio drawing, when a 2002 user
attempts to expand or hide subordinates, this feature does not work on
their computers. NOTE: The 2002 users are using Visio 2002 STANDARD,
not the Professional version. Otherwise, I can use the 2002 file just
fine.

If anyone has some insight into this matter, I would greatly appreciate
your response.

Thank you,

Todd

The Org Chart functionality in Visio 2003 is actually completely new versus
the Visio 2002 version. I do not believe that the drawings are backward
compatible with Visio 2002 Org Chart functionality. You have basic view and
print capabilities, but some editing will not work. Nonetheless, if you
have not yet downloaded and install Service Pack 1 for Visio 2003, I
strongly encourage you to do so. There were many improvements made to Org
Chart functionality to improve some of the compatibility problems.

Mark,

This is definitely NOT what I want to hear <gritting teeth>. This really
creates a problem. I work in the IT department, supporting a personnel
department with this project--nobody knows how to use Visio in that office.

As a matter of fact, they created an organization chart without using the
organizational chart template--they have to insert, delete, and move every
text box manually (not to mention creating all those lines individually).

There are only two computers with Visio 2002 Standard installed there--I can
see this could very well get ugly. Meanwhile, I have Visio 2003 Professional
and everything works fine for me. Problem is...I don't want to get involved
with creating charts (I'm a busy programmer). Aspirin anyone?

Nonetheless, thanks for your remarks--I could have spent more time searching
for the solutions. So...thank you.

Best regards,

Todd Shillam

Mark and others,

Just found this out today--make sure Visio 2002 is updated with Visio
Service Pack 2. If your Visio application is updated, it appears no
functionality is lost when saving to a 2002 format when using Visio 2003.

Best regards,

Todd Shillam
