Visual Reports Remaining Cost Field

Hadi

Hello Experts,

I cannot seem to find where I can generate a visual report that shows a
time-phased report for the "Remaining Cost" for tasks. when i first setup my
budget (by cost loading the schedule) I was easily able to plot the "Cost" or
"Baseline Cost" field for cash flow/forecast purposes. Now one month into my
project I am starting to enter the "Actual" cost so what I need is to plot
the Remaining Cost over time from the status date (under project information)

is this possible?

Hadi ..... I read your question and I am looking for exactly the same
reporting. I wish I had an answer for you becase I would also have an answer
for myself, unfortunately I do not. If you have found an answer, could you
post it so I might learn along with you.
Thank you ..... Laz

Laz,

I have not been able to figure it out yet. I was hoping some of the experts
here can help us. I find it strange that Project is not able to forecast
remaining cost. I mean forecasting happens always in the life cycle of the
project.

Hadi and Laz --

What the two of you want to do is simply not possible in Microsoft Project
2007 or in Visual Reports. If you do the following in your project, you can
clearly see why this is not possible:

1. Click View - Task Usage.
2. Right-click anywhere in the timephased grid (yellow timesheet-like grid
on the right) and select the Detail Styles item from the list.
3. In the Available Fields list on the left, scroll to the bottom of the
list.

Notice that nowhere on this list is there a Remaining Work or Remaining Cost
field. This is because the system does not calculate a TIMEPHASED version
of either field. Because there is no timephased version of either field,
the software cannot "push" this data into a Visual Report in Excel. Hope
this helps.
