what is the difference between editing and formating text

I find no difference at all. when you cut and paste you are moving and
editing text, but when you are trying to make it look nice for people to
see, I still cal that editing even though you can call it formatting as
well.

Generally editing changes the content. Formatting changes the appearance.
Both can change the meaning.

I agree with Charles: editing is for content and mechanics (punctuation,
capitalization); formatting is for appearance and functionality (page
layout, styles).
