what is the difference between hard and soft page breaks?

A Hard Page Break is one that you make yourself using CTRL+ENTER. A Soft
Page Break is one that Word makes automatically when it runs out of room at
the bottom of your page while you are typing, forcing the rest to the top of
the next page.
