I am new at database modeling and reading a book called "Absolute Beginner’s
Guide to Databases By John V. Petersen" which uses (Old Versions) Visio &
Access for examples. But the book does not say which versions. In the book
the author makes an ERD diagram using the Crow's Feet ERD.VST from the
Solutions/Database folder using the "Create Database Wizard". Which version
of Visio is this.

How to make a Access Database from Visio? Is this function availabe in all
versions.

Dear Paul,

It is not in Visio 2002 Pro, Not in Visio 2003 Pro & not in Visio 2007 Pro.

On searching the web sites i found

http://www.win.tue.nl/~rp/visio/2mdb

"Generating an Access database from a Visio database diagram" which explains
How to convert Database Model Diagram in Visio 2000 Enterprise to a Microsoft
Access database". But the methods used including the commands/menues are
totaly different from the Book.

And another one

http://www.skandus.com/visio.htm

for "Data Modeling with Access and Visio" which states "The latest version
of Visio—Visio 2002.........The ER model itself does not allow you to export
to a new or existing database. To export a model, you'll need to use the
Database Model template..............."

But it is not in Visio 2002.

What is to be done is simple.

1 - Create a ERD diagram in Visio.
2 - Automatically generate a Access database from the ERD diagram.

PLEASE HELP.

if all you desire is to draw the diagram, then the professional versions
should be adquate. If you want to 'forward engineer'/'create ddl' then you
need the enterprise architect edition which came with visual studios
enterprise architect edition.

Dear AlEdlund,

Let me get this straight.

1 - Visio 2000 Enterprise

2 - Visio for Enterprise Architects 2003 (VEA 2003) part of
Visual Studio .NET 2003 Enterprise Architect

3 - Office Visio for Enterprise Architects 2005 (VEA 2005) part of
Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite
Visual Studio 2005 Team Architect

The one used in the book was very old. It had Crow's Feet ERD.VST & "Create
Database Wizard".

Since the copyright data on that book is Mar 15, 2002 it would appear that
it is pre v2003.

Just to add another wrinkle to your life.

2 - Visio for Enterprise Architects 2003 (VEA 2003) --> contains Visio
2002

3 - Office Visio for Enterprise Architects 2005 (VEA 2005) --> contains
Visio 2003

I apologize for my late reply:

I am familiar with the book you cite in your question. As to the answer you
seek: the template Crow's Feet.erd.vst appears in the following:

Visio 4.5 Pro
Visio 5.0 Pro
