Widgets and Programs to open

I'm trying to open a widget to allow me to open 'dot docx' (Word2007 files)
and keep getting an error message that there is no program with which to open
it. When I select the option of using the web search or Windows Market Place
in the dialogue box I wind up in utter confusion. It seems that the search
engine is geared to the word 'widgets' and I've not been able to find
anything within a reasonable search time that helps. I'm running WindowXP
SP3 and I've done a registry scan and clean with teh latest version of
RegCure.

Can someone please point me in the direction of a program that will run
widgets or tell me of a program that will convert '.docx' files to '.doc'
format (preferably freebies)?
