Windows Desktop Search 3 fails, breaks custom views & advanced search

I'm thinking of reinstalling Lookout, since WDS isn't working - all I get is
"Outlook cannot perform your search" - and it breaks custom views & advanced
search. I did not have any previous version of WDS installed, so I have
nothing to remove. The index shows as being completed; I've tried searching
for new, old, and items inbetween. I've tried the advanced query as well -
still won't work. Old-fashioned 'advanced find' doesn't work correctly
either; after trying it and waiting for awhile on my inbox (lots of items),
I tried it on a subfolder with 29 items - after letting it go for several
minutes I still got no results. So I tried a custom view - and got an
error, "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the
problem persists, restart Outlook." I restarted Outlook - still won't work.
The problem with the custom view appears to only occur in mail files (the
other two problems - advanced find & instant search not working - are broken
throughout Outlook). I've tried rebuilding the index twice. However,
before I completely remove WDS 3 (in the hopes of getting regular searching
back), I'm wondering if there's anything else I might try.

Lookout was great, and I was really looking forward to WDS 3.0. But not
being able to search at all is a major problem.

Tryign waiting might help.
It can take a substantial time for the initial index to be built. The
initlal index is built while the computer is idle. Leave it on overnight (at
least). 24 hours is expected and some users report longer.
Your interface error is possibly unrelated. Try a new profile via the mail
icon in Control Panel and copy items from your old PST over to it.

It has been a week. I've rebuilt the index two times, both times waiting
until it showed the index was complete before attempting a search. This is
the 3rd profile I've tried this on, and the 2nd time I've used SCANPST. I
realize these products are both in Beta, but Lookout (which, if I understand
correctly, is what this is based on) worked flawlessly.

Any idea when the next beta build of WDS will be released? I might try it
again then, but am probably going to remove it until then. Failing to work
under random situations, combined with no UI, sounds more like an alpha then
a beta to me.

WDS 3 in Outlook also usually works flawlessly.
A mistake you have made is to use scanpst with Outlook 2007. It can cause
data corruption.
I'm not sure exactly what is causing your issue but it does seem to be
isolated.

I had no choice but to use Scanpst, since it got to a point where I was
getting repeated errors in Outlook. The first time I ran it, I did have
serious problems; but the second time went okay.

While I have no doubt the issue is isolated, since removing WDS 3 I am able
to use advanced search and custom views. I was hoping at least one other
person might be having similar issues and have found a solution, or at least
a cause. I'll hold off on installing Lookout (in case that was the
problem) but will keep checking for a build update for WDS 3.

I'd just install it and wait for a really long time before you try and use
it.

Dude ... i'm having the EXACT SAME ISSUE ...

It WAS working flawlessly - but now it just stopped working.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled 2007 and WDS 3 - still getting it.

ANYBODY GOT A SOLUTION?

A suggestion: Control Panel, Indexing Options, Advanced, Rebuild, then
let your computer sit with Outlook open for at least a night. This will
rebuild your entire index and might solve the issue (prob. only
temporarily though).

What does Indexing Options in Control Panel say?
you could try rebuilding the index via there if you can.

Control panel - Indexing Options ...

NOTHING listed - just says "Waiting for status update ..."

Modify and Advanced are greyed out!

ARGH!

I have the same problem. Instant Search started up realy nice, but then I
accidentally removed my laptop from the dockingstation, and since then the
Instant Search allways answer with "Outlook cannot perform your search".

I have read the replies and are now trying to rebuild indexes via Control
Panel - Indexing Options, but after now 15 min., it still says: "Waiting for
status update". The list under "Index these locations" is emty.

What would be my next move?
