Word 2000 shows funny signs all of the sudden, HELP!

Macchiavelli

Hi people,

One day I was typing in my word 2000 file and accidentally I pressed a weird
combo of buttons and all of a sudden the whole layout of the page changed.
I added a screenshot, please check it here:

As you see every word contains - instead of a blank space and at the end of
every paragraph you get a weird sign.

Please help me.

You've displayed nonprinting characters. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm

FWIW, unless you inadvertently clicked the Show/Hide ¶ button, you probably
pressed Ctrl+*.

Many users will tell you your screen shot looks perfectly normal to them, as
many of us wouldn't dream of working without nonprinting characters
displayed. You may also want to check the language applied to your text. If
Word thinks "remodeling" is misspelled, you may have UK English applied. If
this is what you want, then you need to correct the spelling.

It appears that you simply toggled on the Show/Hide Icon, and all you need to
do is to toggle it off. Look for ¶ at the top of your screen and click on it
again. What you see in your text is merely non-printing characters which can
be toggle on or off.

Non-printing characters can be shown by toggling on the Show/Hide Icon =
Pilcrow or Paragraph mark (¶). Once toggled on, the paragraph mark or pilcrow
(¶) represents a paragraph break. A small raised dot represents an ordinary
space. An arrow pointing to the right represents a tab character. A degree
symbol represents a nonbreaking space, or an Em or En space. A conditional
hyphen is shown as ¬. One other type of “nonprinting character†that is
toggled by the Show/Hide button is Hidden text. For more information see:
