word gets corrupted

Whenever I work in MS word 2003, it automatically creates a temp file in the
folder and after few minutes it just hangs or word gets exited(comes out of
word). The file so created is not to be found in the folder but only the
temp file with filename such as ~wm4564.tmp is found.

I could not find the original file. Request to let me know how to
eliminate creation of temp files and also the sudden closure of MS word(hangs)

The creation of temp files is normal operating procedure for Word, see
