Would my contacts/emails be retrievable after detect and repair?

I have lost all my contacts and past emails through using Detect and Repair.
Would they be still on the computer somewhere? How could I find them and
restore them?
I have done a system search and found files that were changed at the time
this happened, but I don't know how to retrieve the data and put it back
where I want it. I can't just restore it as I didn't have a recent backup of
this data.

Contacts, mail, tasks, calendar, .etc is stored in a *.PST file. General
location under 2000/XP is under \documents and settings\local
settings\application data\microsoft\outlook or \documents and
settings\application data\microsoft\outlook. Both of these locations are
hidden/system folders, so you would have to configure Windows Explorer to
show you all files.

I've never seen a detect and repair wipe out the registry keys to ones *.pst
file(s). In any event, you can open a pst file via the file > open >
Outlook Data File (or Personal Folders depending on version). Other options
to opening via file > open is doing an import (file > import and export) or
just adding the pst file to your profile via the mail applet in the control
panel.
