Maximum window size ?

Hi,

Is there a maximum window size in Word 2004 ? I would like to have my
window "height-split" on two monitors, but all my attempts to resize
the window to the right size fail.

Thanks,

Guillaume

I'm not sure what you mean by "height split". But here I can drag a
Word window across my two 20" monitors no trouble at all. By playing
with view » zoom » many pages, I can get all kinds of layouts to use up
all that screen space, including one big window in which 12pt type
looks like sky signwriting by choosing zoom » page width

Thank you for your answer. Well, by "height split" I means that I was
trying to increase the vertical size. For some sort of reason, I do
not have the problem anymore (the difference seems to be that both
monitors should be hooked up before I start the program).

Best,

Guillaume

Whee! Do you have two monitors stacked one on top of the other?
Awesome! I must try that.
(Slight pause for experiments)
Hmm. I rearranged the monitors on system prefs from side by side to
stacked vertically while Word was running. Then with the window zoom
set to page width, I successfully did your "height split" without
needing to restart Word.
I'll try the reconnect with Word running later, I'm currently sucking
down 722MBytes of MacTeX image and I don't want to risk losing the
progress so far.

I'm pleased you found a fix. If you can confirm that you really do need
to restart Word after attaching your second monitor it would be useful
to report back here. I, or one of the other regulars might post your
results and our own confirmations back to Microsoft for possible
improvement of future versions of Word.

Dear Guillaume,

You have *no idea* how much trouble your query has caused. Elliott is bad
enough with his no-mouse, full-screen-width methods of operating without
being given the idea of vertically stacked screens... ;-)))

No, rub out the ;-))) -- this is serious. Some of us are going to have to
live with this... :-|

Yeah, Guillaume, have you any idea the virus you have released on the
world??? We're going to suffer this for YEARS :)

Pay no attention to this rabble Guillaume! When I mentioned the
'regulars' it was they I had on mind. Sensible mature people I thought!
Now where is that list of people I used to rate?

I thought later the "attach screen on-the-fly" not working might be
more of an Apple problem than a Word one. It would be good to get right
for those bringing their lappy home to a 30" Cinema display after a
hard day of road-war.

I currently have no second screen for my 12" PB, but I'll run some
tests the next chance I get.

PS John: That Oz copy of CS3 I bought is working like a charm. I hope
pommy Adobe soon realise the global warming they cause by people flying
to NY and SYD to save money. ;-)
PPS Clive. The Bleasdale Meritage slipped down very nicely. Thanks
again.

I've already envisioned one Mr. Roper slipping out to the barn in the middle
of the night, climbing into a lift with a wireless keyboard, raising &
lowering himself from one of 6 30" Cinema Displays - stacked one above the
other - to the next, rather than use the dreaded rodent to scroll ;-)... All
the while chuckling with maniacal glee secure in the belief he's convinced
the missus that travel expenses and the escalating cost of decent beverage
is responsible for the budget deficit:)

Bob:

That's a perfectly feasible scenario, I suggest... However, Elliott's
long-long-suffering wife is never likely to be that convinced.

She was minutely examining every twitch of his eyebrows in the local Apple
Store: He got away with only a single copy of CS-3, and even then, only
because it was half the London price ... I think she's awake to his little
tricks...

Cheers
