A Task Automatically Highlighted in Red

Hey Gang,
I have inherited a MS-Project file that has had at least 4 owners, before
me. It's proving to be quite a challenge to change ANYTHING in this plan.
Before I started using this plan, I considered myself quite knowledgeable
about Project. Now, I'm doubting my basic computing skills. Ha ha. Very
frustrating.

Anyway, here's my question:

I created a brand new task for "Administration", like timesheets, status
reports, etc. I made it Fixed Duration. I then started adding my resources to
the task one at a time and setting everyone to 5%. As I did so, it slowly
increased the work - just like I wanted. So, everything with that is A-OK.

The problem is that during this process, at some point, it highlighted my
task in red. Anyone have any idea why a brand new task with no constraints,
no predecessors (other than the project kick-off milestone), no actual
values, etc. would be highlighted in red???

Thanks.

Hi,

This "Administration" task may be critical. What is its duration? What is
the project duration ?

Bonjour Gérard,

The project is configured to run 2/21/06 - 11/30/07.

The admin task is 11/3/06 - End of Project.

I dug around and found that it is "critical" because it butts up against the
last day of the project. Rather, it defines the last day of the project.

Thanks for the pointer, Gérard.
