Access XP Error Codes

I have compacted and repaired a currupted database file. The
MSysCompactError table has 15 entries, all "Error Code - 1504" What causes
this error code, and what does it mean?

The ErrorDescription is " Could not find field 'Description'. " but this
refers to tables in which I have never created a field with this name.

Also the database file is frequently corrupted when in use - is it likely to
be down to its construction or structure, a flaw in Access, or the network it
is using? Or all of the above! I have little confidence in the network as
it is creaking with the server using Windows 98, and workstations a mixture
of windows 98, 2000 and XP Pro.
