After Installing Office 2003 without Outlook Getting Updates for Outlook

S

Stewart Berman

I an in the process of installing Office 2000, XP, 2003 and Office 2007. I am up to 2003 and have
been very careful not to install Outlook. Why when I use Windows Update do I get updates for
Outlook? The last two were:

Update for Outlook 2003 (KB943649)
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (KB953432)

I also have one for Outlook's junk mail filter and some for Outlook 2002.

I do not have any version of Outlook installed on this machine -- not even Outlook Express. Why am
I getting hot fixes for Outlook?

That means that you have remnants of files and/or registry entries from a
previous Outlook 2003 installation, or (most likely) you have some
features/components of Outlook installed that have been installed by another
application because of a hidden dependency.

I guess the reason that you're starting with Office 2000 and going right up
the line is to follow the upgrade path? Is this a newly formatted drive?

No he's not following any upgrade path, from his first post in another
thread, the OP stated he needed all versions from O2k to O2007, but only
planned to install outlook with 2007

OK, thanks for clarification...didn't see that original post in the other
thread. I was hoping that didn't mean that four different versions of Office
would be running on the same machine - not recommended at all, mainly because
of the known shared file registration problems.
