After update, entourage duplicated ALLcalendar events and contacts

I have sync with ical but not .mac (the latter never worked for me). It worked fine for months until i updated office 2004 (11.4); the first thing that happened was that my mac address book lost all contacts, while most entourage calendar events were duplicated (my ical is still fine, with no duplicates). after reverting to the address book backup, the mac address book was fine but entourage duplicated all contacts. now entourage behaves erratically (for example, it will start on its own and not close down). help anyone? thanks, Hannah

Sounds like the update was problematic for you. Move you Microsoft User Data
folder to Shared folder. Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in
Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User
Switching. Move your Microsoft User Data folder from Shared and test there.
If the problem goes away then something in your User's folder is causing the
problem. If not, you might need to use "Remove Office" and then update
stopping before the 11.4 update. Links for updates:

In the future, if you archive/zip your Office folder before updating, it's
easy to go back to the zipped copy.

LOOK AT HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE WASTED TIME AND MONEY WITH THIS ISSUE -
MICROSOFT SHOULD REIMBURSE US OR MAKE SOME KIND OF GESTURE - IF NOT
THE OBVIOUS MESSAGE FOR US TO TAKE ON BOARD IS THAT MICROSOFT IS
SIMPLY NOT RELIABLE, SO INSTEAD OF TRYING TO SWITCH TO MAC AND RETAIN
OFFICE APPLICATIONS WE SHOULD ACTUALLY SWITCH COMPLETELY AWAY FROM
MICROSOFT.

BTW, Your keyboard seems to be malfunction. All of the text appears in
capitals.

If you are going to shout, shout at Microsoft not at your peers.

I am a long-time user of Mac and Entourage 2004 worked pretty well. I have had repeated crashes with the Office 2008 update, particularly with Entourage. Syncing appears to be a lost cause, perhaps made worse by my attempt to sync with .mac. If that is the case, how do I "unsync" with .mac? And more pressing, given that there is substantial work involved in creating and linking files in Entourage Projects, is there any reasonably time-effective way to stop using Entourage altogether and either transfer everything into iCal and iAddress -- or is there another contact management system that works well with Mac?
A new kink: I just reinstalled Office 2008 to see if that would help with my Entourage challenges and now I can't open it at all. Says the Rules file is corrupt. I'd appreciate any help, and please keep in mind, I'm pretty good at using the computer, and not at all good at the language that is spoken once something doesn't function and we need to go fix. Simplicity will help this middle-aged woman feel less worn out with all this. Thanks.
