Analyze with Excel

D

Donna

In Access 2003 one can view a report & click "Analyze this with Excel". That
feature is no longer available in Access 2007. Just exporting the query
behind the report loses the grouping and sorting feature that the report
provides. Is there any way around this? It was a great feature & I have
users that want to go back to Office 2003 just because of this issue.

There has been extensive discussion on this issue. You are not alone in your
dismay, but MS didn't think this was that important.
But, there is a way around it. It is very code intensive. Using
Automation, you can create a workbook, position the data however you want it,
and do whatever formatting you want. The downside is it takes good knowledge
of VBA and an understanding of the Excel Object model. The Excel Object
model is pretty complex, but can be mastered. One way to shortcut the
process of creating the code is to open an Excel sheet, start recording a
macro and do what you need done. Then copy the code created by the macro and
paste it into your Access VBA. There will have to be some modifications to
fit into Access.

Here is the code module for a form where an Excel file is created that uses
some of the techniques you will need. Note there are some external code that
is called from this module, but as it is, I don't know that it will all fit
in a post. If you need the additional code, post back and I will send it
along.

Thanks so much for the idea about creating a macro & then pasting the code.
I'll play around with it & see how it goes. Thanks again for the help!
