Attachments not being sent - they are all garbled!

D

Danielle

Whnever we send attachments from one of our computers it is being received by
the other person as several messages (sometimes up to 100) each one
containing what can only be described as garbled code of some kind - and no
attachment.

We've had our settings checked and can't see anything strange but can anyone
suggest what might be happening here?

Its Outlook 2002.

Many thanks
Danielle

What settings did you check? What type of email account do you have?
Do you have Google Desktop Search installed? Do you have any third party
toolbars installed? Have you checked COMs and Add Ins? Have you disabled your
AV email integration with Outlook?

Ahaaaaaaa the anti virus.

Disabed checking of outgoing emails from Norton and its fine now.

Stupid Norton!

Thanks :D

To be honest with you, most people don't know that scanning incoming and
outgoing email isn't necessary until they run into this kind of problem. Your
real time scanner will catch things as long as it's kept up-to-date.

Hi again,

Apparently it's still doing it after all :(

The one that worked must have been a fluke.

AV scanning our outgoing emails has been permenantly switched off and its
still doing it :(

Any other ideas what might be the problem?

Thanks
Danielle

Switching off the AV email scanning integration may not be enough. You may
need to uninstall your AV software, reboot, and reinstall it without
configuring email integration.

Enable the view of your send/receive progress in Outlook to see if there are
any errors that come up. If there are, please post the exact message.

Also, check your application event viewer to see if there are any Microsoft
Office or Outlook-related errors listed there. If there are, please post back
the EventID number and source.

Hi

We've always had the same AV software installed and never had problems
before; I am therefore disinclined to install all our software as we've
always had email integration before with no problems...?

Also there are no application/send/receive errors; the email seems to send
find at our end its just when it gets to the other side that there is a
problem.

The recipient will typically receive several emails (sometimes up to 100)
which have the following subject line:

FW: attachmentname.ext [1/3]

where it puts the attachment name and file extention as thesubject header.

Then the body of the email looks like this:

Have you checked Norton's site for any updates to your scan engine or Norton
package?

Also, you may want to try scanning your PST for errors, use scanpst.exe to
do that. Just do a file/folder search it. Double-click it and follow the
instructions. If it finds errors, scan again - until no further errors are
found. Make sure Outlook is closed when you do this.

If the above two don't do anything, try creating a new Outlook profile:

That doesn't mean your AV program won't install an automatic update and
break.

WIth AV software, as with the stock market, past performance is no
indication of future performance.
Also there are no application/send/receive errors; the email seems to

Something is doing this to your message. Outlook 2002 does NOT break a
large attachment into multiple pieces.
