auto change task type from fixed duration to fixed units

Hi,
I'm using project professional 2007 with Project Server 2007 and I
have noted this auto-change: if I change the finish date of one task,
with actual work and task type equal to fixed duration, project
professional changes the task type to fixed units!
Does someone know the reason of this "auto-change"?

If a fixed duration task is 50% complete and you add an extra day, then it's
no longer 50% complete and by virtual that you've added some duration, it's
no longer fixed duration.

I'd argue that there are very few occasions when you'd need to use fixed
duration tasks as there's generally something that can affect the duration.
