Autorecover - Default File Location

R

Randy

I'm having trouble with PowerPoint 2007's autorecover feature. Right
now, the default file location is set to "r". That's right, "r".
Since this strikes me as a little inaccurate, I tried to change it to
"C:\Users\{user}\Documents", which I know to be a valid path since I
can browse to it in Explorer and copy/paste this path directly into
the PowerPoint field. However, when I hit the OK button, I get the
following error message:

"The server drafts location you entered for offline editing is not
valid or you do not have permission to access that location. Specify
a location on you local computer."

I even tried to enter "c:\", but got the same error. This is the only
user account on the computer and does have administrator privileges,
so something is going wrong. Can anybody help?

Thanks.

That's a bit odd, granted, but the default file location doesn't have
much to do with the autorecover feature.

The default file location setting governs where PPT will offer to save a
file the first time (and in PPT 2007 it seems to ignore this once you've
opened a file from another folder, which then becomes the default,
regardless of where you've stated you want to go today).

Autorecover saves the file you're working on periodically (at an
interval you set) but doesn't really make the file available to you
unless PPT detects that it's crashed. In other words, it's not
something you want to count on. If you want a real timed saved feature,
check http://skp.mvps.org ... Shyam Pillai has a (free, I believe) add-
in that does regular timed saves.

You're poking the right data into the wrong hole.

Up a bit. You want "Default file location" not "Server drafts location"
