Calculation based on year of entry

As background, I am what you might call and advanced novice. I am 8
years old and could have done this myself 20 years ago, but as I age, m
ability to concentrate dwindles and I can't resolve conflicts in logi
as well as I could years ago. I was teaching programming in 1967 an
was involved in software development and maintenance until retirement i
1996, but my involvement has steadily decreased over the years. I a
only trying to keep up with the spreadsheet work to keep my mind active

I have developed a spreadsheet, based on an Amortization of a loan.
am actually trying to calculate the total interest in Column "F" that i
paid each year, based on the date in Column B. I have a column "I" tha
contains the year and column "J" that will be the total for that year
Can someone steer me in the right direction?

Take a look at the CUMIPMT function.

(I don't like that function for reasons I have long-since forgotten.
Instead, I prefer to do the calculation myself, using the FV function.)

However, the devil is in the details. In order to offer a more turnkey
solution, it would be helpful to see an example Excel file.

I believe excelbanter.com provides a way to "attach" a file to a posting.
But more generally, upload the Excel file to a file-sharing website, and
post the "sharable" URL of the file in a response. Below is a list of some
free file-sharing websites; or use your own. But this seems to be an
error-prone process; many people post the wrong URL. box.net seems to be
the least error-prone, IMHO.
