Calculation of "Due In" for tasks

Can someone explain to me how the "Due In" value is calculated? Also, can
the calculation be changed?

Here's the problem. I've scheduled a task to be due on 6/30. However,
since the task takes a couple days to complete, I set the reminder for 6/25.
This morning I get the reminder stating the task is overdue even though it's
not due for 5 days. To find the real due date I have to open the task
instead of just reading the "Due In" time.

Why is Outlook calculating the due date based on the Reminder? Shouldn't
the "Due In" value be calculated based on the actual Due Date? As it is
currently determined, this is annoying and misleading.

In order to correct this right now, I have to either put up with misleading
information or set the reminder to the actual due date. The first choice
bugs me since it's wrong and the second choice leaves me with no advanced
warning of the due date.

Any help is appreciated.
