Can Office versions run together?

Hi, I'm running Vista, and have Word and Excel 97 installed. I wanted to
uninstall them to put Office XP on but I can't as I don't have the original
setup disk, and theres no other simple way to get rid of it - which is a
total nightmare, cheers Microsoft!

Three questions I have - can I manually delete as many Office 97 files as I
can find and clean up the registry using the link on the Microsoft website,

Or: would it be better to install Office XP and get rid of '97 using a
removal wizard after

Or: can I have both installed on my computer at the same time?

You can have both installed, excepting only a single instance of Outlook.
If you install OfficeXP I suspect the installation would identify the old
version and ask if you wish to upgrade, that being the case 97 would be
removed.
PS If you dont have the 97 disk, how was it installed?

The disks were lost when I moved house, bit unfortunate really. Thanks for
your help
