Cannot turn off default reminder

Adrian

Exchange 2007, Outlook 2007

I have unticked the default reminder box under Tools | Options | Calendar.
If I now send an Appointment or Meeting Request no reminder is put in, but
if I receive an Appointment or Meeting Request that has no reminder it is
saved with a reminder 15 minutes before (or whatever my default reminder
time was before I unticked the default reminder box).

This is particularly annoying for All Day Appointments if the reminder is
set to 15 minutes before and you have a PDA or Windows Mobile Device that
then reminds you at 23:45pm!

Is this a known bug or am I missing something?

Thanks for any help.

it wouldn't be a calendar rule, but a new message rule in tools, rules and
alerts.

Anyone got any ideas?

Is this a problem specific to us, or is it a general problem with
Access/Exchange?

Thanks,

Do you have the calendar linked with Access?

Are you sure Outlook is setting the reminder and not the PDA?

Can you set the pda to not wake on reminders? This will prevent the 23:45
reminder from firing.

Diane,

Thanks.

No. We have a straightforward setup of Exchange 2007 / Outlook 2007.

It is definitely Outlook setting the reminder. I can set my phone on silent
for reminders, but then I will not get any reminders- even the ones I want.

Would you confirm that this is not a general problem, and is something
specific to our setup.

Outlook, on its own, will not set reminders on received items.

If you stop syncing, do the reminders fire on Outlook? (You have to stop
syncing completely because the reminders can sync from the phone to
outlook).

What sync software do you use? Did you check its options for reminders?

Diane,

Thanks for your comments. Apologies for the late reply.

Mine does! It is nothing to do with the syncing with my phone and occurs
when I am not syncing my phone (as well as to everyone else in our office -
many of whom do not sync their Outlook). I only mentioned that because it
sounds the reminder in the middle of the night!

I have done some more testing.

If I create a new calendar folder (called test) and send an all day
appointment with no reminder to myself, in my main calendar the appointment
has a reminder set to 15 minutes but in the test calendar there is no
reminder.

If I change the default reminder time under Options and Calendar to, for
example, 30 minutes then the reminder in my main calendar will be 30
minutes. Even if I then untick default reminder it stays at 30 minutes. This
behaviour affects everyone in our office.

Regards,

Adrian.

Hello,

I can confirm that this happens in our company as well:
- Exchange 2007 with all the service packs
- Office 2007 Service Pack 1

When someone send a meeting request with no reminder, the invited people
nonetheless receive an appointment with the reminder set to 15 minutes.
This is highly unnverving, and as for me this is clearly a bug in Outlook
2007 and/or exchange 2007.

A fix or a workaround would be very welcome!
