Can't Exit Design Mode because Control 'Switch' canot be created'

I keep having hassles whenever I add a few simple form CHECK BOXes (from
Control Toolbar). The only properties I change are a) Caption and b)
LinkedCell. If I am making so few changes why does Excel have a hissy fit -
"Can't Exit Design Mode because Control 'Switch' canot be created' - when I
reopen the file?

Why can't it be created? It was created (and working) when I closed the
file yesterday?? What is corrupting my file?

*screams silently from his cubicle* in fustration.
