can't save audio in a powerpoint file

I have powerpoint 2008 and I want to place an audio clip that will play
when you click on the slide.
It works fine while I am working in powerpoint and when I test the
presentation, but if I save and close the file and then try it on a
different mac computer that has powerpoint, the file has lost its audio.
I have noticed that the file size of the audio is about 20 mb and the
file size of the powerpoint file before adding the audio is about 5 mb
and the same after adding the audio file, so obviously it is not really
saving my audio file.
I don't want to turn it into a movie because I want the viewer to be
able to click along at their own pace.
The help files indicate that it should be a fairly simple process, but
once saved, the audio file seems to be lost.
What am I doing wrong?

You must save the PP as a "package." Then, take the entire folder
(package) with you on your flash or CE to play it on the other
computer. That way, all the files, including the audio file "travels"
with the PP in that folder -- when you try to play it someplace else,
the PP program goes to the original place where the audio file was to
get it to play. If you are on another computer and you only have the
PP program withOUT the audio file, PP still tries to find it by
looking for it in it's original place where you had it when you
created the PP, and it cannot play it because while you are in Jamaica
with your powerpoint, your audio file is still on your home computer
in Nebraska (for example!). So Save it as a PACKAGE and take the
entire PP folder that is made with you.

Thanks, I can see the save as package in powerpoint 2008 but I also have
the new one powerpoint 2011 and i can't see it in that version.
Is it called something else or has it been removed?
It's not a big issue to use the 2008 version, but I was wondering if
there is a better feature in 2011 or if it has been abandoned,

How about to convert your powerpoint to flash?
Then the viewer is still able to click along at their own pace.
