Can't set default fonts for envelopes

S

Steven Zarda

I am using MS Office XP Professional.
I have a letter open in MS Word. I select "envelopes and labels"
The envelope printing dialogue box opens and correctly displays the delivery
address and return address.
I change the fonts for these addresses and set these as the new default
fonts.
Then I print an envelope using these fonts.
Next time I try to print an envelope, the fonts have reverted to the ones I
had before selecting new default fonts.
Why? How can this be fixed?

I assume you're right-clicking the address box in the Envelopes dialog
and choosing Font, and then clicking the Default button in the Font
dialog. That's deceptive -- it doesn't really set any default.

To really change the default font, don't start in the Enveloped dialog
at all. Click Format > Styles & Formatting. Set the dropdown at the
bottom of the Styles task pane to All Styles. Find the Envelope
Address style in the list, right-click it, and choose Modify. In the
Modify dialog, check the box at lower left for "Add to template";
change the font as desired; and click OK. Now choose the Envelope
Return style and modify that in the same way.

When you close Word, if you're prompted whether to save changes to
Normal.dot, say yes.

A similar method, with illustrated instructions, is shown at
