Chaining presentations

Comrades,
Once, long ago, in a PowerPoint version far , far away, it used to be
possible to chain a set of different PPTs together into a single show.

This was done using the viewer in conjunction with an external playlist.

I haven't needed this feature for a long time, but I will need it in a
couple of months for a conference I'm chairing.

Given the more sophisticated animations now in Powerpoint, and the
increasing use of VBA, is it wise to rely on the viewer for this purpose?
As I understand it, the 2003 Viewer is the latest version available, and it
does not support new features introduced between 2002 and 2003, not to
mention 2007.

So is there a way to chain from one presentation to another, with each
presentation possibly using very different formats and masters, WITHIN the
main program? Note that I will probably be faced with PPT 2003 files, and
maybe a few 2007 files. Running on XP, not a Mac.

Cheers,
Geoff
