Configuring everytime Word opens

T

Terry

In office 2007 (WinXP), word configures everytime it is opened. This
normally takes about 2-3 minutes, but should not be necessary everytime it
opens. I have tried repairing but that has not stopped the behavior.

Any suggestions?

Do you have an earlier version also installed on the machine?

The steps to stop Word from initializing itself each time it is started are
included in the Hacking the Registry section of the following page of fellow

As Doug points out, what you need is in the "Hacking the Registry" section
of the article.

OK, what is hacking the registry should I perform to keep it from formatting
each time I start it?

Yes, I did. After doing the first part there is no folder *\11.0\*, that
prompted my last response. I appologize for not adding that part. Again,
what part of the hacking will help?

You may need to be logged into the operating system as Administrator, or
navigate to the Winword.exe file (C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office12) and then right click on it and select "Run as
administrator"

Have you tried the Run as administrator option when right clicking on
Winword.exe?

Also, given that you appear to have Office XP on the machine, you may need
to make the change to the registry for the 12

That seemed to work, now if you would be so kind which version is 2000? I
have the same problem with that one. I never asked before because the file
could be opened by earlier version. When the extensions were changed in
2007, opening up with previous versions was not an option.

8 is Word 97 and 9 is Word 2000, 10 is XP (2002), 11 is 2003, 12 is 2007 and
14 (there is no 13) is 2010
