I am receiving a -17747 error whenever I attempt to search my directory services contact list.

Doing a web search for that error says that I need to remove the search base, yet I have no search base entered.

Looking at the server response this appears to be the error message, does anyone know how to fix it?

Are these the directions you followed?

Error -17747

-17747 = -17800 + unwillingToPerform (53).

Every time I try to access the GAL with LDAP, I receive error #-17747.

SP2 includes a fair amount of enhancements to Entourage's general LDAP
capabilities. As a result, some of your previous LDAP settings may need to
be updated. The most common solution for error -17747 is to remove the
search base from your directory configuration. Go to Tools menu : Accounts :
Your Exchange Account : Advanced and empty the Search Base field.

Do you know a proper search base that you can enter?

The default for most Active Directory servers would be:

CN=Users,OU=Common,DC=domain,DC=com

You'd need to replace the two DC parts of the name with your own
organization's names. (If myschool.edu then you'd use "DC=myschool,DC=edu".)

Only your network or server administrator could definitively tell you
your company's correct search base.

Hope this helps!

Yes this was what I read following a web search for the 17747 error.

I didn't really need to follow the instructions as I have never had a search base entered.

I have tried a few search bases without success. The network admins here are no help. They say they don't know anything about Entourage and cannot help me.

If I could find where this setting is in outlook, would help me greatly.

One thing I've noticed is that the error only appears when I enter nothing into the filter. If I enter something, matching users are returned but I cannot get all users.

I think there is an Exchange list that might give you a broader base for
support for Exchange.
