corrupt text

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel the document text is filled with 1's. How do I remove them and return to original text.

Without knowing more, e.g. hypothesis on what caused the apparent file
corruption, the only thing I can think of is that the file is now gone
and all you can do is retrieve a previous version of the file from your
backup.

Worth probably also thinking how this corruption could have occurred so
as to avoid it (was it emailed? was it stored on a memory stick? is the
hard disk going bad? is your OS X and Word versions up to date?)
