Cross-Project Task Links Between Project Server and Client

I have the need to filter tasks in the Project client based on task data
obtained from Project Server 2007. This works fine when there are no
subprojects involved as the Task_UID in Project Server matches the GUID field
in the Project client. However, when there are subs, the GUID field no
longer matches the sub tasks. After some detective work, I did find that
Project Server has this alternate GUID stored in the database under the
column TASK_EXT_TASK_UID but there is no way that I can find to obtain that
piece of data through the PSI web services.

People have asked similar questions here:
http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/33353529/crossproject-task-links.aspx
and here
http://relatedterms.com/thread/1422948/Cross-Project Task Links in Project Server 2007 and have not received responses.

Can someone advise as to whether or not this is even possible?

Thank you.

That's an interesting workaround except for I would be required to write to
the customers project file (i.e. update the custom field with my custom UID).
I don't think that's acceptable, but I can do some asking.
