cut and copy tools does't work

We are trying to copy and paste from one word document to another, but the
copy tool in the tool bar is not activated. When using Ctrl +C and then Ctrl
+V, the previous copied text is then pasted instead of chosen text.
The keyboard does not work properly. Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard
KU-0459.
Vista /Word 2007 .

If you start Word in Safe mode (hold Ctrl as you start the application),
then does copy and paste work properly? If so, a likely cause is a poorly
designed add-in.
