.CWK to MS Word Converter

Sparky Watts

I'm a PC person looking for help from the MAC community.
A friend sent me a .CWK file and I need to convert it to a MS Word 2000
..DOC file. Are there any shareware/freeware converter programs that will do
this? I don't want to purchase a commercial program to use once or twice a
year.
This friend has a late model Mac with nothing added and I think she's
using AppleWorks, if it was factory installed. Is there a way for her to
'export' these .CWK files to a MS Word .DOC file format? If so, it would
make life easier for me as my Word 2k doesn't have a converter for any of
the .CWK files. If she can 'import' my .DOC files and convert them to her
..CWK files then our problem is solved but I still need the .CWK to .DOC
converter program to resolve my initial issue.

Sparky,

If it's a late model Mac, then her version of Appleworks will allow her to
do a Save As to RTF, which of course you can read without any problems.

* A SUGGESTION ‹ WAIT FOR CONSIDERED ADVICE: If you post a question, keep
re-visiting the newsgroup for several days after the first response comes
in. Sometimes it takes a few responses before the best or complete solution
is proposed; sometimes you'll be asked for further information so that a
better answer can be provided. Good tips about getting the best out of
posting are at http://word.mvps.org/FindHelp/Posting.htm (if you use Safari
and it gives you a blank page the first time, you may need to hit the
circular arrow icon -- "Reload the current page" -- a few times).

Hi Sparky,

According to my Appleworks 6 Save As dialog, it is possible to save out to a
Word format (in fact Word 2000 is specifically mentioned, along with other
versions, though all latter-day Word docs are inter-compatible so it
wouldn't really matter). I suspect that when she tries it, some formatting
will be lost or altered, but all the text will be there.

Also, I just tried opening a Word document using File>Open from within
Appleworks. Even though the document was grayed out in the Finder window,
it did open when I double-clicked: It looked horrible, but everything was
there including graphic elements.
