DATA ANALYSIS DATA DISCREPANCY

D

Dots

I have 2 views created in Data Analysis: 1 that pulls from the Timesheet cube
for timesheet data and a second that pulls from EPM Timesheet for hours from
the project plan. My hope was to see that timesheet hours compare to Project
hours. with these 2 views. Unfortunately I am seeing a discrepancy in the
data, although this discrepancy is not consistent. Below is an example of
data being pulled from these two views.
Timesheet Project List Level 02 Project List Level 02
Basis Administration & Support - 2009 829.00 Basis Administration & Support
- 2009 717.00
BI Reporting Corporate - 2009 664.00 BI Reporting Corporate - 2009 664.00
Communication Voice and Data Support - 2009 822.50 Communication Voice and
Data Support - 2009 814.00

In addition to this, if I go back to the project plan, in some instances the
actual work entered does not reflect what is being reported in the project
pull. What's going on here and how do I fix this so that data in my cube is
an actual reflection of data being entered?

Thanks, Dots.

HI Dots,

there are several reasons why you may experience a discrepancy,
firstly ensure that the cubes have been build so that their contain the
latest data.
In regards to the timesheet and task update discrepancy it is possible that
your resource has entered the time in the timesheet but has not imported this
information into the task update ( or vice versa). The best idea is to check
out the actual task and see where exactly the discrepancy is, then amend the
task bei either importing the timehseet or manually amending the actual work.
I know that it is compersome, but Project Server 2007 has very clear
distigtions between task updates and timesheet updates. There is not
automated update process between the 2 of them ( well at least not out of the
box).
Hope this makes sense

Just to add a bit to Marc's excellent answer:

The "Timesheet" cube will retain information from timesheets which
have been deleted, either at the individual timesheet level, or using
a date range in PWA>Server Settings>Delete Enterprise Objects. This is
by design, as timesheets are auditable (as long as you have "Enable
Timesheet Auditing" selected in timesheet settings). However, there is
no OOB method for filtering off deleted timesheets. This is a major
design flaw, IMHO. This COULD be the reason you see a difference in
the Timesheet cube vs the EPM Timesheet cube.
