database error SNOW LEOPARD

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

have just installed snow leopard which crashed my comp and required a format of disc. On reinstallation of software - OFFICE .
I cannot open Entourage 08. When I attempt to do so, it tells me I have to rebuild the database in utility and then it shuts down. When I go to the database utility, there is not database listed. If I choose rebuild, my only option is to quit. Therefore, Entourage will not open.
I do receive the same data rebuild message in Excel and Word

Hi David,

Entourage needs its database in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008
Identities/<name of your identity> (where "~" stands for your Mac OS X user
account). If it is not there, it does not know what to rebuild. Do you have
a copy of your database on a backup disk?

Another suggestion: make sure Office is up-to-date. If the database was
modified by a newer version of Entourage, earlier versions won't be able to
open it.

Move the Microsoft User Data folder in Documents to the desktop. Now open
Entourage and let it create a new Microsoft User Data folder and anew blank
Identity. Now you can bring over your old Main Identity to replace the blank
one. Open Entourage and see if you still get the error.
