Department Project Tracking

K

Ken Dehart

I am currently setting up Project Server 2007 for use by my Organization.

We would like to create the PWA to be used at the Major Project / Department
Level.

Example: http://projectserver/technicalservices
(this is completed)
or http://projectserver/newbuilding

We would like to do this for tracking all projects within the
department(consisting of 18 members), for use not only by team members, but
by management being able to track all projects and tasks of all team members
in one central location. (All Team Members will have a Desktop Copy of
Project 2007)

Any & All help associated with getting this established would truely be
appreciated.

At first glance, I'd question this set up. It's doable, but the reporting up
is going to be a nightmare.

The typical implementation would be to lump all of the departments into a
single implementation - unless their business practices are so different that
they just can't coexist in a single server - but in that case, you'd never be
able to roll up and aggregate their data together.

Also your team members should not all require a desktop license, as this may
be an unnecessary expense.

I'd strongly recommend that you engage a local partner and work with them to
develop a solution specific to your needs.

Hi Ken, in addition to Andrew's comments, I'd say the major factor in whether
you go for separate PS instances for technical services and new building is
whether the same resources will work across both functions - if so, and if
Resource Management needs to feature as part of your solution, then don't do
it, as you'll never get a single view of your resource issues.
