We are in the process of developing software designed to enable non-technical
users to create a workflow diagram for online surveys which should output
either XML or connect directly to an SQL database. The software would be used
by around 30 users who need to work while online and offline and send data
when connected. I am a Visio newbie and would like to find some resources on
several aspects of Visio 2007 which are critical to my assessment of its
validity. I would be extremely grateful if anyone could help. I need to know:
How easy it is to make shapes/elements from a template generate XML to their
own schema rather than the Visio XML schema.
How effective/successful it is to expose the Visio drawing interface in
another Microsoft app - for example Word or IE.
What is required to validate the workflow diagram when an element is placed
(applying rules to the diagram).
The best way to only expose certain capabilities of Visio when using a
particular template (as users of the software will not be familiar with Visio)
I am not a technical developer so apologies if some of these questions are a
bit basic. If anyone has any experience of developing an app of this kind and
could give any advice/warnings/encouragement then I would be grateful for
that too.
