different margins for odd-even pages

Hi, all. I've been working in Word longer than some of you have been
alive but have kept to the basics. Here is my problem. I want to
publish a book on Amazon.com CreateSpace subsidiary (FREE TIP: No set
up fees, unlike most self publishing web companies, nor any minimum
order).

The manuscript must be submitted in PDF format but must have different
margins on the left and right hand side pages for the binding.

I've changed margins many times in Word but not for odd-even pages.
I'm using Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac, on an intel-based MacBook
with 10.4.10 operating system.

Here are the directions from CreateSpace:

CREATESPACE: "You are correct that we require different margins for
left and right-hand pages.

The inside margin is also called the gutter margin, which is
the side where the book will be bound.

This margin should be at least .75" to ensure that the text can be
easily read when the book is opened.

For right-hand pages, the gutter margin will be on the left, and for
left-hand pages, the gutter margin will be on the right.

The outside margins refer to the top, bottom, and outside edges. We
recommend that all outside margins be .5".

If you are creating a book that is 6" x 9", you should set your page
size to 6" wide x 9" high, with margins of .75" for the inside
(gutter)
margin, and .5" for all outside margins. If you do this, the size of
your actual text block will be 4.75" wide x 8" high." END CREATEPAGE.

Any assistance greatly appreciated

Hi Fred -

If that's all you need you can handle it right where you should already feel
at home:)

Same place as you'd normally change your margins - Page Setup - but take a
closer look. Open the list labeled Multiple Pages: & select Mirror Margins.
That will convert the standard Left & Right margin labeling to Outside &
Inside respectively. It will also provide the Gutter value box directly
beneath the one for Inside.

Minor Corrections: You don't even have to open a list 8>} In 2004 the Mirror
Margins feature is just a simple checkbox in the Format> Document - Margins
dialog, and the Gutter setting is directly below the *Outside* value box
once the check is in place... But perhaps you've found all that out by now.
