Digital Signature Crap

Hello all,

I tried to run my database on a company computer and got some error message
about my application trying to run a macro and something about an unsigned
Digital Signature. Needless to say when I clicked the OK button to allow my
VB code to run it wouldn't let the code run at all so my database was
rendered pretty useless. So back to the Digital Signature thing. What is it
and how do I get one?

Actually,

They can be a pain to use. What version of Access are you using (I would
guess 2007, but need to know before providing any more info).

Dale,

I just upgraded to Office 2007 because that's what my company is using.
Kinda sucks though because I miss the old 2003 drop-down menu interface, hate
that Ribbon thing.

You'll get used to it. I still prefer the old menus, and have been using
2007 for over a year now.

Getting back to your issue.
1. When you open your 2007 database, you should see an "Options" button to
the right of some text that says "Security Warning". It will be below the
ribbon, and above and to the right of the Navigation Pane (used to be the
"database window"). Click that button. Then select the Enable this content,
and then OK. If you do it this way, you will have to do this every time you
open your database

2. The better way is to click the "Open the Trust Center" hyperlink at the
bottom of the Security Alert dialog box. Then you can create a "Trusted
Location" (a folder on your computer where you put applications that you know
and trust). Any Access database or Excel spreadsheet that is in this
location will automatically have the Macros and VB enabled.

3. The third option is to go with a digitial signature. It's easy for me,
since I'm working for the government and have a Common Access Card, which
contains a digital signature. It is not as easy if you are not a govt
employee with a CAC card. Do a Google search on "Digital Signature" and you
should find some instructions on how to get one.

Dale,

Your second option worked great and no need for the Digital Signature thing.
Man, you saved me a lot of grief my friend. Thanks for your reply and for
the valuable info. You Rock!!
